Lamy!

.. it that time of year when very very small amounts of top league Burgundy arrive in our cellars. In this case it’s the 2023 vintage of Hubert Lamy’s top notch Saint-Aubin.

As you well know the Lamy family have been in the village of Saint-Aubin since 17th century. I have an admission to make here. I drove through the village several times in 1980s and had never heard of them then. It has only been in the last decade + that the Lamy name has become ubiquitous with this part of the Cote de Beaune., and in my private cellar. The wines are only bottled after 12-18 months of ageing in old barrels. No filtration!. This year we have managed to get our paws on some of their Pinot Noir for the first time. A bit of whole cluster spikes it up a wee bit. Bravo!!

The Criots-Batard-Montrachet 2023 came in a case of 1 x 75cl bottle. Sorry, I kept this one for me. However, if you are on for some of the super excellent Puligny or their Saint-Aubin, here is what’s on offer (today!):

Domaine Hubert Lamy
2023 Puligny Montrachet ‘Les Tremblots’ @ £125bt  – (12 bottles)
2023 Saint-Aubin ‘Derriere Chez Edouard’ Cuvee Haute Densite @ £495bt  – (6 bottles)
2023 Saint-Aubin ‘Princee Blanc’ @ £69bt – (6 bottles)
2023 Saint-Aubin ‘Derriere Chez Edouard’ ROUGEV.V. @ £69bt – (6bottles)

Tasting Note:

The 2023 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard “Haut Densité” 1er Cru has a fresh but tightly wound nose featuring hints of flint, shucked oyster shell and grassy meadow. The palate is beautifully balanced, vibrant, poised and focused, with a silver thread of acidity and just a slight honeyed note right on the finish. This is excellent!  N.M.

There is also a case available today of 2021 Vieilles Vignes which we never shipped back to England in 2023:
2021 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru ‘Derriere Chez Edouard’ V.V. @ £90bt  – (6 bottles)
All lying ex London City Bond VT ‘Under Bond’ .. as usual.

The vines of Dom.Hubert Lamy extend over clay limestone soils predominantly calcareous, shallow (10-30cms) and very very stony.
